We’ve all been there: sitting in a 60-minute lecture, trying to scribble down every word the professor says, only to realize halfway through that we’ve stopped actually listening. We become so focused on capturing the data that we lose the “Aha!” moment—the actual understanding of the lesson.
I’ve always believed that technology should free our minds, not distract them. That’s why I started building Recaply-AI.

From a Classroom Vision to a Mobile Reality
My ultimate vision for this project is a dedicated “Audio Box” installed in every classroom—a silent observer that records, processes, and delivers a perfect summary of the course to every student.
To test this idea, I’ve developed the Recaply-AI Mobile Prototype. I wanted to see if I could use the phone in my pocket to turn complex academic discussions into a structured, 5-minute study brief.
The “Brain” Behind the Prototype
I didn’t want a basic voice recorder. I wanted something that felt like a cognitive assistant. To make this prototype work, I combined two of the most powerful AI tools available today:
- The “Ears” (Groq & Whisper): For transcription, I used the Groq API running the Whisper-large-v3 model. It is incredibly fast. In my personal tests, it captures technical jargon and academic terms with near-perfect accuracy, even in a busy room.
- The “Brain” (Gemini 2.5 Flash): Once the text is ready, Gemini takes over. It doesn’t just shorten the text; it understands it. It breaks the lecture down into:
- Core Concepts: The big ideas you need to know.
- Key Arguments: The logical flow of the professor’s lecture.
- Action Items: What you specifically need to study next.
Built for the Real World
Since this is a prototype I’m testing in actual classrooms, I focused on two practical needs:
- Reliability: The app uses a “local-first” database. If the internet flickers or the app closes, your session isn’t lost.
- Multitasking: I designed it to run as a background service. You can start the recording and use your phone for research or digital note-taking without worrying about the app stopping.
Why This Matters to Me
Recaply-AI is more than just a coding project; it’s about cognitive freedom. When we automate the mechanical task of note-taking, we empower ourselves to focus on what truly matters: deep comprehension and critical thinking.
This mobile prototype is just the first step. Whether it’s an app on your phone or a dedicated device in a lecture hall, the goal remains the same: ensuring that no great idea is ever lost in the noise of a busy classroom.
